Claes Glassell – Chief Executive Officer
Claes Glassell joined CMC Biologics as its chief executive officer in May 2011. He brings to the table more than 30 years of industry experience, including 20 years of executive leadership experience in publicly listed life science companies responsible for bioprocessing, active ingredients manufacture, registered therapeutic agents, and various support services. Most recently, he was president and CEO of Cerus Corporation. Prior to Cerus, he was president and COO of Cambrex Corporation and held senior positions with Akzo Nobel, Nobel Industries, and Berol Kemi. Claes has a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, and he attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He has been a member of CMC Biologics’ board of directors since 2005.
Mads Laustsen – Chief Scientific Officer
A founder of CMC Biologics, Mads Laustsen serves as the Company’s chief scientific officer responsible for technology and corporate development. He served as the Company’s CEO from the time the Company was founded in 2001 until May 2011, when he was named to the board of directors. Prior to establishing CMC Biologics, Mads spent 16 years developing and manufacturing bulk enzymes and biopharmaceuticals at Novo, Zymogenetics, and Novozymes. He has served as a member of various advisory boards, has been active in development of new process technologies, and holds numerous patents in the field.
Gustavo Mahler, Ph.D. – Global Chief Operations Officer
Gustavo Mahler, Ph.D., joined CMC Biologics in 2008 as president, reporting to the CEO and board of directors. In 2010, he was named global Chief Operations Officer. He is responsible for CMC’s global CMO commercial and technical operations . Prior to joining CMC Biologics, Gustavo worked for 15 years at Bayer in United States, Europe and Latin America serving in various manufacturing and general management positions. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, and he also has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University UNED of Madrid and an Executive Certification in Management from MIT Sloan
Douglas Sanders – Chief Financial Officer
Douglas Sanders joined CMC Biologics as chief financial officer in August 2011. Douglas, who brings extensive international, financial, and life science experience, reports to the CEO and has overall responsibility for financial management of the company. Prior to joining CMC Biologics, Douglas founded several life science companies and was a financial consultant in the industry. In 2005, he was CFO at MediQuest Therapeutics, a development stage specialty pharmaceutical company. He spent 15 years at Hoffmann-La Roche, most recently as head of business operations and CFO for Roche Consumer Health. Douglas has also held auditor positions at Eastman Kodak Company, Hoffman, Stewart & Schmidt, and Ernst and Young. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gonzaga University.
